Officials with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center called Riverstone’s first Commit for Life Blood Drive a rousing success with one of the biggest turn-outs they had seen at a first-time drive.
More than 35 people donated blood during the Feb. 12 drive, held on-site in the community. All those donating (and even a few residents unable to donate) enjoyed made-to-order fresh fruit smoothies and snacks from My Fit Foods. Those donating also received a commemorative sweatshirt, a gift certificate for a sports massage at Elements Massage Studio and a caricature drawing while they waited to donate.
“Knowing that our efforts will help save more than 100 lives, is gratifying,” said Melanie Rushe, Riverstone’s lifestyle director. “The community showed great support, with every donation time slot filled.”
