Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be in Riverstone from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, for a blood drive.
The drive will be held at the Creekstone Village Recreation Center, 5438 Creekstone Village Drive, Sugar Land. The first 100 to donate will receive a commemorative hoodie. Also, My Fit Foods will supply snacks for the drive and there will be on-site smoothies.
The demand for blood in our region is high, according to the blood center, with approximately 1,000 units of blood needed to meet the daily demand of the more than 170 hospitals in the Texas Gulf Coast, East Texas and Brazos Valley regions. One blood donation can save up to three lives.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Those giving blood are encouraged to eat a hearty meal and drink 16 ounces of water at least one hour before donating. Further information — including whether you can donate if you’re taking certain medications — can be found at www.giveblood.org. The drive is open to the public.
To avoid long waits, those wanting to participate should schedule an appointment by e-mailing lifestyledirector@riverstone.com. For more information, phone 281.499.8722.
