Sugar Land is the No. 4 "Happiest Small Town in America," according to a report from Top Counseling Schools, (TCS) a counseling information and resource website.

TCS compiled the ranking using metrics that include poverty rate, population, median household income, median property value, education, employment rate, unemployment rate and the overall crime rate per 100,000 people for a town.

How does Sugar Land stack up against other small towns? Unlike big cities, our small suburb boasts a low population of 85,681 residents.

It’s also a safe place with only 4.15 crimes per 100,000 residents. Income is high (a median $108,504). So are median property values ($283,400). Low unemployment and a highly educated workforce are also cited as positives in the TCS report.

Sugar Land also got a shout-out for its diverse restaurant scene and lots of weekend activities. We already knew that. Our residents can often be found taking in a concert at Smart Financial Centre or dining at the upscale restaurants lining Sugar Land Town Square.
