Fort Bend’s positive business climate is reaping rewards, contributing to the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area’s placement among the top five major U.S. major markets for small business growth.
The nation’s fourth largest city ranked No. 5 for the number of small businesses added between 2010 and 2014 and No. 3 for its percentage growth in small businesses during that time, according to a new American City Business Journals’ analysis of U.S. Census data. During that time period, Houston added 9,695 small businesses, an increase of 8.2 percent.
Fort Bend County is home to a number of small businesses, offering a variety of resources that support entrepreneurial initiative and assistance to new business owners.
According to data provided by the Fort Bend Economic Development Council, factors fostering the proliferation of small business may include having the third lowest business tax rate in the greater Houston area and an elevated quality of life including higher wages, diversity of industry and a favorable system of maintaining infrastructure.
